Washi is a traditional Japanese industry with a history of over 1,000 years, and it has been used not only for recording but also as a material for architecture and clothing, such as fusuma (襖 sliding doors), shoji (障子 paper screens), and wallpaper.

Various types of washi are produced throughout Japan, and although the production volume is currently decreasing, high-quality washi is still being created by artisans.
